This Grüner was fermented primarily in a terra cotta amphora and a small proportion fermented in a new, lightly toasted Austrian Stockinger barrel. This barrel imparts a fragrant character from the wood that accentuates the fruitiness and also the spiciness of the wine.
While this wine retains Gruner’s steely, refreshing acidity, the addition of oak influence lends a slightly rich mouthfeel. On the nose, honey, flint, ripe apple, and honeydew. Great rich intensity. Juicy acidity. Stony flint, crunchy tart apple finishes with a pleasant hint of bitters pulls it all together.
